What's the point?

"What's the point?!" Kirk shouted across the bridge. Spock calmly replied, "the point, Kirk, is illogical."

"What's the point" is a pretty broad question. Asking what the point is of pickles and life are two very different things. However, you know who can answer both of those questions? Spock. Spock has spent ages on the U.S.S. Enterprise, and can point you in the direction of the solution to any problem. When I was younger, my dad and I used to watch Star Trek all the time. Spock became an icon to me, plus he has really pointy ears.

When I heard the theme, I started my brainstorming with pencils, mountains, boring stuff like that. One of my earliest ideas was Spock and I knew that was what I'd do. However, I don't have much experience drawing people or faces so I started with simple profiles and major features. I liked the look of it so much that I decided to try cutting all the pieces out of paper. The colorful, minimalist, two- dimensional Spock in the foreground contrasts with the infinite grid black and white background.

All in all, I'm proud with how this project turned out. Details were added daily as I saw fit and I'm happy with the final product.

  1. This is genius. I don't like much minimalist art, but this is just really well done. Fantastic.
